Handbook — updated

What is a G1 test in Ontario?

In Ontario, to start your driving journey as a new driver, getting a G1 license is the first step. For the G1 written exam, you must score at least 80% on the theory test. It ensures you understand road signs, traffic rules, and safe driving practices.
Once you pass, you’ll get a G1 license, which allows you to drive under the supervision of a fully licensed driver with at least 4 years of experience. The supervising driver must have a Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) below 0.05, while G1 drivers must maintain a zero BAC (0.00) at all times. You must be at least 16 years old to apply.
The G1 Rules and Restrictions are enforced under Ontario’s Driving Law.
Before you take the test, learn everything you need to know about the rules, understand road signs, and start practising with free G1 tests to pass on your first attempt.

“Studied here for 2 days and passed with 39/40. The road signs section is exactly what they test you on. My friend failed twice without practice and passed on the first try after using this.”

“I recently moved from India. The Ontario rules are totally different. This site explained WHY each rule exists, not just what it is. Passed first try 2 weeks after arriving in Canada.”
